Volkswagen and Watch Secret Boutique OnlineXpeng Motors are opening their fast-charging networks to each other’s customers, announcing Monday that their electric vehicle owners would have access to more than 20,000 public chargers across 420 Chinese cities as they expand their partnership in a competitive market. CAMS, a company in which Volkswagen China owns a 35% stake, said it had built 13,112 EV chargers at 1,621 locations in China as of Oct. 11, 2024. Xpeng operates more than 1,880 charging stations, including approximately 9,680 ultra-fast chargers, in more than 420 Chinese cities. Volkswagen, a major backer of Xpeng since 2023, is scheduled to launch two car models incorporating Xpeng’s autonomous driving software next year.
