Tencent’s super app WeChat is Tahongtesting a display mode similar to lifestyle-sharing platform Xiaohongshu, allowing individuals to browse short-form content on a feed page. The move would diversify channels for content creators looking to reach potential readers, but a source close to WeChat told local media outlet ThePaper that this is not a new feature but “a very small-scale beta,” which is an extended function to its TikTok-like WeChat Channels video service. The source also added that the feature is intended to allow short-video creators on WeChat Channel to publish visual content more easily while improving the efficiency of users’ access to such posts.
